Available lepidopteran insect cell lines.

چکیده
This chapter lists the known cell lines from Lepidoptera, largely based on previous compilations of insect cell lines published by W. Fred Hink. The official designation is given for each cell line as well as the species, tissue source, and, when known, the susceptibilities to baculoviruses.

Insect cell culture in research: Indian scenario.
Insect cell cultures are widely used in viral diagnosis and biotechnology, for the production of recombinant proteins, viral pesticides and vaccines as well as in basic research in genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, endocrinology and virology. Following KRP Singh's pioneering research in 1967, a large number of cell lines from diptera, hemiptera, and lepidopteran insects were establishe...
متن کاملReduced stability and intracellular transport of dsRNA contribute to poor RNAi response in lepidopteran insects
RNA interference (RNAi) has become a widely used reverse genetic tool to study gene function in eukaryotic organisms and is being developed as a technology for insect pest management. The efficiency of RNAi varies among organisms. Insects from different orders also display differential efficiency of RNAi, ranging from highly efficient (coleopterans) to very low efficient (lepidopterans). We inv...
متن کاملBaculovirus studies in new, indigenous lepidopteran cell lines.
Eight lepidopteran cell lines were established recently and their susceptibility to different insect viruses was studied. Two Spodoptera litura cell lines from the larval and pupal ovaries, were found highly susceptible to S. litura nuclear polyhedrosis virus (SLNPV, 5-6 x 10(6) NPV/ml). The Helicoverpa armigera cell line from the embryonic tissue was highly susceptible to H. armigera NPV (HaNP...
متن کاملToxicological Evaluation of a New Lepidopteran Insecticide, Flubendiamide, in Non-Target Drosophila melanogaster Meigen (Diptera: Drosophilidae)
Background: Flubendiamide, comparatively a new pesticide designed to eradicate lepidopteran insect pests is known to have low risk to birds, mammals, fish, algae, honey bees, non-target arthropods, earthworms, soil macro- and micro-organisms, non-target plants as well as sewage treatment organisms; however, the risk assessment for aquatic invertebrates from metabolite could not be finalized wit...
متن کاملRole of nitric oxide synthase in insect cell radioresistance: an in-silico analysis
Previous studies on various insect cell lines have displayed very high radioresistance in Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) as compared to mammals as well as other orders of Insecta including Diptera. Since NOS is known to modulate cellular radiation sensitivity, we carried out in silico analysis of Lepidopteran NOS and compared its structural and functional features including the sequence ho...
